Daughters of Lithuania ~ A Brief History
The Seattle Chapter of the Daughters of Lithuania is a small, non-profit group registered in Washington State. Our history is a simple one. In 1960, the Daughters of Lithuania was organized in Chicago, Illinois to assist needy Lithuanian immigrants.
Today, there are several chapters of our organization across the United States continuing to provide charitable aid to many young children, the infirm and elderly individuals of Lithuanian descent in the United States and Lithuania.

.Our Charitable Works
The Daughters of Lithuania ~ Seattle Chapter currently supports Lithuanian humanitarian efforts such as: a school and orphanage for special needs children; a soup kitchen and social services for the homeless and elderly and medical relief efforts in Lithuania. We have sponsored Lithuanian children traveling to the United States for intensive medical care.
A Sampling of Local Activities
Blueberry Picnic ~ Fundraising: Each July, our major fundraising event is held. The Daughters and their friends gather at a working blueberry farm - courtesy of one of our members. Good food, yummy blueberries and great music are shared by all. The Daughters are grateful that many choose to support our good works by donating & bidding on silent auction items and buying raffle tickets. The monies raised annually support Lithuanian causes in the US and Lithuania.
Typical Service Opportunities: Food, fellowship and respite care are provided by the Daughters to members of our extended Lithuanian community during times of physical illness, disability or personal loss. The Daughters and our friends periodically gather to help sort supplies and medical equipment for medical relief shipments at Providence Health International’s warehouse in Olympia, Washington.
Lithuanian Cultural Activities: The young and not-so-young come to a member's home and create Lithuanian foods, crafts and fun memories. Recent activities include: meat-filled, potato dumplings (cepelinai), sausage (dešra) and dyed, wax resist Easter eggs (margucai). Everyone comes away with delicious and beautiful creations.
